After our hiking days in the Drakensberg we drove directly to St. Lucia, which was a long driving day of 6 hours. The drive was fine but mostly unspectacular when leaving the Drakensberg area behind. Around Durban, it got a bit busy, as it is a bigger city in between which can be used as another stopover on the way to St. Lucia. As we did not had that much time, we skipped it and drove directly to St. Lucia. The small town has a lot of to offer, see some things to be done in the area listed below.
2 hours boat trip to see the Hippos and Crocodiles
In order to see a unique wildlife spectacle join one of the boat trips in St Lucia to see the Hippos. If you can take the last boat of the day because it is not that hot anymore and the animals are very active. Tickets can either way be booked at the tourism center at the city entry of St Lucia or at the tour boot launch on McKenzie Street.
Full Day visit iSimangaliso Wetlands Game Reserve
Wetlands Game Reserve is one of the smaller Parks in South Africa. It will take 4 to 5 hours to drive through the Park with a 35 km drive to Cape Vidal. Entrance fee can be paid at the gate, in case you are traveling in the high season (Nov/Dec) get an online reservation forehand. In case you want to enjoy fishing and snorkeling as well, get an overnight stay in the Reserve at Cape Vidal.
Full Day visit iMfolozie/Hluhluwe Game Reserve
The park is 1 hours drive from St Lucia. In order to enjoy the reserve fully plan in the whole day. In this reserve be a bit carefull with a none 4×4 wheel drive car, not all roads are made for a normal car. To be save ask at the gate which road to take.

It is worth to stay 2 nights in St. Lucia, not including Hluhluwe Game Reserve. There is much to do and it is a nice little town.
