In 2014, we had the amazing chance to do a vacation in New Zealand for seven weeks. We visited the South and North Island, starting in Christchurch. In order to be flexible, we only booked a flight to the other end of the earth (30 hours – how crazy) and a rental car. Everything else we booked in New Zealand itself.
We slept mainly in our tent on camping side of the Department of Conservation or other private camps, that were recommended by locals. We only stayed in huts for three nights due to bad weather conditions.
Our road trip covered over 5000 Kilometers of driving and the time was divided in four weeks at the South and three weeks at the North Island. In order to stay away from the crowds we started our trip in the beginning of the November and flew home shortly before Christmas, at the end of December.
