New Zealand: The different face of NZ – Black Beaches

We’d enjoyed the white beaches of Coromandel, Spirits Bay and the Abel Tasman National Park. But we knew that there are also Black Beaches in the area of Auckland, which we explored in our last days in New Zealand.

We did long walks at the Whatipu Beach and stayed at the Whatipu Campground. Which we could only enjoy for a half night because of flooding in our tent during hard rain. The alternative plan was to visit the couple we met on the Kaupokonui Beach campground, who invited us two weeks back to enjoy with them the time before Christmas.

Spending time with locals is always the best. They showed us their peninsular of St. Heliers and invited us in their home. One interesting thing in New Zealand was that the indoor Christmas trees are artificial. Which make sense because December is summer in New Zealand. Only the outdoor trees in the front yards are “living trees” which are decorated.
