La Réunion: Finally a clear view in Maido

Our first attempt to drive to Le Maïdo ended in us at the parking lot with heavy rain. We started another try to get lucky the second time. Even that it was raining at the sea level, there was no cloud at Le Maïdo. Which made the day perfect for hiking.

The drive up to Le Maïdo is around 30 km from Saint-Paul. It is not a long distance but it will take around 60 to 90 minutes as there are many turns to take.

Where to park: when you reach Maïdo park on the right-hand side parking space.

What to do: several shorter and longer day hikes possible. At the parking lot is a hiking map, from where it is possible to choose the right loop.

Tips: Bring sun creme. Even that it does not feel that warm, getting a sun burn up at 2200 meters is pretty easy.

Cost: None

Personal opinion: Amazing view over the Cirque de Mafate”. The further away you hike from the viewing point the lesser people there are. We took a hike from the parking lot at the edge of the “Cirque de Mafate” for 3 hours.
