After our amazing days in Slovenia we soon needed to go back home, but on our way back to Germany we stopped again for a couple of days in the Dolomites. This time we stayed in the Pustertal in Sexten. As we knew the place from our visit 3 years back, we knew it would be a great ending for this years Europe trip.
In Sexten we stayed in the lovely guesthouse “Haus Helene“, which is in a quite part of town. It offers an amazing view from the balcony to the mountains, the “Spieluhr” of Sexten. We were lucky and had 3 days of pure sunshine and clear views at the peaks. But as it was the beginning of October it was already cold, at night -2 degree and at the day around 10 degrees.
One easy hike that should not be missed in Sexten is the “Sextner Rundweg“, which is an 11 km loop trail from Sexten to the hut “Talschlusshütte” and back. In case you want to shorten the hike, it is possible to drive to the parking of the Fischleinbodenhütte and start hikes from there. The “Talschlusshütte” provides the starting point of several hikes into the “Parco naturale Tre Cime” including the hike to the Tre Cime itself.
Even that hiking is the thing that everyone is coming for to the Dolomites in the summer, do not forget to stop at the Refugios for the amazing Italian food. No matter if pizza or pasta, or the traditional dessert “Kaiserschmarrn“. The food comes always with an amazing view into the mountains.
