Iceland: Westfjords, still a hidden gem

In the Westfjords we drove around for four days in order to drive into every fjord. For me the Westfjords are not that much different from the Eastfjords, they are just more remote and have more graveled road, and they are less crowded because they are still a hidden gem in Iceland.

The highlight for me was the bird cliff L├ítrabjarg, the F road 66 and the Bolafjall. Besides that we visited a lot of remote beaches and found out that also sheep like the beach. čÖé

Our journey started in Brjanslaekur after our ferry ride from Stykkisholmur. First stop in the Westfjords was the bird cliff L├ítrabjarg. After that we drove to Patreksfj├Âr├░ur. From B├şldudalur we drove than further to visit the waterfall Dynjandi.

In ├×ingeyri we drove on the 622 which is a nice scenic trip. It gets really bumpy and you should have real good driving skills. But it is totally worth it to take this road around the peninsula. Further our trip took us to ├Źsafj├Âr├░ur where we visited Bolafjall. Next stop was the fjord of Sk├Âtufj├Âr├░ur where we been totally lucky in seeing a colony of seals.

In the fjord Vatnsfj├Âr├░ur we were able to see already the glacier┬áDrangaj├Âkull.┬á Where we took a hike towards the glacier, when driving on the 635. Even that the Westfjords for me do not have that many highlights then the ring road or the hightlands, they are worth to get discovered.
