This hidden gem we found only via accident on our way back from Þórsmörk. It was again that we saw a small tour bus on the street and a small entrance to this canyon. As we still had time we stopped the car and started hiking. As there is not sign or any information we did not have an idea what to aspect.
Name: Stakkholtsgja Canyon Length: ~2 km Time: ~1-2 hours Good to know: hike includes river crossing. At the end of the canyon is a waterfall.
Where to park: park in front of the Stakkholtsgja canyon at the F249. It is only possible to go there with a 4×4 wheel drive.
Tip: bring water shoes for the river crossings.
Cost: None
Personal opinion: Beautiful canyon and off the beaten path’s. Worth to get wet feet.
