Name: Landmannalaugar
Good to know: is the beginning/end of the Laugavegur hiking trail. The area itself includes several day hike possibilities.
Where to park: parking slot at the end of the road F224. There are 2 parking slots, one before and one after the river. Driving to Landmannalaugar from Reykjavík will take around 3 hours, it can only be done with a 4×4 wheel drive. Try to stay somewhere near Hekla or directly at the camping side in Landmannalaugar.
Tip: In case you are interested to bathe in a natural hot pool, bring your swimming suit. There is one at the hut/camp side.

Personal opinion: Landmannalaugar is a magical place in Iceland. Hiking in the geothermal area and just having a look at the Brennisteinsalda mountain is a unique experience. Be aware that the place is really popular, for that reason the camp side is huge and hiking alone in this area is just not possible.
