During my last business trip I was lucky to enjoy some afternoons in Oxford. The city is only 80 km away from London and a one-hour drive away from the Heathrow airport. Mostly it is known for the University of Oxford, the oldest university in the English-speaking world. During my stay I was in a hotel at the river Thames. It was nice to have a walk or a jogging round early in the morning, while watching the rowers in theirs boats.
I did not have any specific sightseeing agenda in the city. I just walked around and enjoyed the old charm of the city, with seeing the University Church of St Mary the Virgin and the Radcliffe Camera. A must do when visiting Oxford or England in general is to enjoy a beer in one of the old pubs.
Before leaving England I tried the traditional food “scones with clotted cream and jam“. I was told this is the traditional dish of England. It is some kind of sweet biscuits that gets combined with clotted cream and jam. Clotted cream is a thick full cream cow-milk, which itself taste interesting. Combined with the strawberry jam the cookie gets a special English taste. It was an interesting combination that got a nice taste to it. In case to try something special in England, go for that one.
